rejig alternative character names
Currently the system requests a character name, then a "commonly known as". If the commonly known box is filled in, it is used as the "primary name", with the "real" name in smaller text preceeded by AKA. I found this initially confusing, and felt it couldn't do what I would like, which is to have my main character name on display, along with perhaps a list of character nicknames or aliases
eg: Csongor Madarack AKA The League Battle Bard
Nagateca AKA Vadasz-Ahu
In both cases the character name is what they're most widely known as, but some people know them as the other name instead. In order to get the effect I want I would have to put Character name: The League Battle Bard. Commonly known as: Csongor Madarack.
I propose instead to have an entry for Character name (as the one that is most widely known), followed by an "AKA" field, which would still be appropriate for characters whose "real" names aren't what they're commonly called. (Eg. Name: Empress Theredillez, AKA The resplendent benefactress, scion of the empty throne, bride of the blazing sun, etc etc.)
The current system actually stems from early users having the opposite problem, that is “Character Name” is their full name, and what they were known as on the field was lost. In addition, in general the Commonly Known name is shorter and more likely to fit within the character boundries of the system (limited so it fits in Bannerbars at the top, and also character cards), the Name has fewer such restrictions
What I can – and am planning to – do is add another “Title” field, which will fix most of the issues people seem to be having with the current setup.
